test TL with Aurora/Jax
Sep. 14th, 2024 02:37 pm[ It is almost midday on the fourteenth. Though many are weary and tired from the continuous time loops and fractures that Somnius continues to throw at them, the search for the little duckling continues on. It's on this day, and at this time, that fortune almost appears to smile upon this particular princess.
"A little bird told me", so the saying goes, but for Aurora that tends to be taken more literally. What others would hear as little tweets and chirps, she hears in speech and tone. This flitting thing circles around Aurora's head, speaking to her in panicked chatterings.
"My lady, my lady! The child has been seen! Come quickly, come quickly, before she flees again!"
There would be no time to call upon allies - Webby has made it clear that she doesn't wish to be found, so if Aurora wanted to find her now, she needed to move now. ]

IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Webbigail “Webby” Vanderquack
Species: Duck
Canon: Ducktales 2017
Canon Point: Post Season 2 Episode 13
Character Age: 12. All her life, she’s been trained by one of the top agents of S.H.U.S.H., a very powerful spy agency meant to protect the world. As such, she’s been trained in several forms of combat, weaponry, and even how to attack people with mind games. She now travels all over the world with renowned adventurer Scrooge McDuck and his family, and as a result has encountered several life-threatening encounters of the mystical and mortal variety (and has eagerly enjoyed both).
CRAU: No
CRAU Explanation: N/A
Character Appearance: A small young white duckling with a bob of white hair/feathers, typically dressed in pinks and purples. Big wide black eyes, a beak for a mouth, typically shoeless and wearing a skirt. Always wears a pink bow on one side of her head.
Powers and Abilities: Webby has been trained her entire life to protect herself, from learning martial arts, to firing weapons, espionage, camping, and translating dead languages.. Her endurance and strength, as a result, are far above that of a normal little girl. In the show, she's been able to knock over fully-grown adults with a chest bump or a well-timed kick to the ribs. She's also able to keep up with (if not outright defeat) people who are more skilled than the average person, such as a super spy and an evil sorceress.
What Did Your Character Wish For? Webby wished to have Lena return to the living waking world, as she’s currently trapped within the realm of shadows… if not worse. Webby isn’t 100% sure where her friend is, but she’s very adamant that Lena is not dead. She just wants her friend back.
What Potion Did They Receive? The Scarlet Potion of Elemental Magic.
Did They Drink It? No. Drinking random liquids handed out by mystical creatures is not exactly considered wise, as far as Webby has been taught. While she is tempted, she’ll keep it tucked away until she can verify it’s safe, most likely by interactions with others who have drunk theirs.
Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most?
Given that Webby’s wish revolves around Lena, it’s fair to say it’s her. Lena was the first person Webby befriended outside of the mansion and that had no (as far as she knew at the time) connection to the McDuck family. Since Webby was already desperately lonely to begin with (twelve years locked up in a mansion with no friends will do that to a person) she immediately attached to this mysterious ne’er do well, this girl who played by nobody’s rules but her own and made her own adventure instead of seeking it out.
Lena always seemed ready to push Webby to limits she didn’t know she had, walking on the wild side and teaching her about teasing and sarcasm. Even when the truth was revealed – that Lena had initially befriended her to gain access to Scrooge McDuck – Webby still believed in Lena’s good heart and that their friendship was true. Tragically, this was proven true when Lena took a magical “bullet” for Webby, sacrificing herself to save her friend from the vile sorceress, Magica De Spell. Since then, Webby has vowed to find some way to bring Lena back from where she is, and give her the life and freedom Lena deserved instead of being Magica’s pawn.
As such, not only does Webby miss Lena immensely, she also feels guilty for never seeing the “signs” that Lena was being used and abused by Magica. While this experience has taught her about the magic of second chances, it’s also made her more desperate and headstrong towards finding Lena’s way home.
2. What are they most afraid of?
Being left utterly alone. As a result of growing up under Granny’s strict training, Webby wasn’t allowed to interact with the outside world, and couldn’t even get an emotional reaction of the other person living there, Scrooge McDuck. So when she was finally able to make friends with the triplets, bond with her idol Scrooge, and go on actual adventures outside, a new fear was implemented in her – she would be devastated if she was alone again, and doesn’t think she could handle it.
This fear has come to light several times, such as when she tried acting “normal” with the boys on a disastrous trip to Funzo’s, as she feared they wouldn’t want to be her friend if she was her usual self – despite the fact that being her normal self would rescue them from being kidnapped. This fear also allowed Lena more access to the mansion than others would get, as Webby dearly wanted to keep her friend and perhaps missed more of the obvious signs of Magica pulling Lena’s strings.
3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically?
Emotionally – For all her training, Webby is still a sheltered little girl. Her usual emotion is sheer joy, and it can be difficult to change that, even when important situations call for it. But when she does feel other things, such as anger and sadness, she feels them very hard – her anger has her yelling, her sadness has her crying. She doesn’t know how to hold back when it comes to feelings, and doesn’t have the emotional maturity to realize why that’s important. Additionally, she’s dangerously curious about everything and anything, eager to learn something new despite (or maybe even because of!) how dangerous it is.
Mentally – Social skills weren’t on the training schedule, so Webby can have a hard time reading people, such as invading their personal space or asking invasive questions and not understanding why people would be offended. When it comes to mortality, much of the world is black and white to her, and it’s only recently she’s begun to understand that some areas and some people are gray. For example, if someone she likes and respects does something (Such as Scrooge going bananas for missing 87 cents) , that something must be good, and she won’t hear argument otherwise no matter how logical – her idol MUST have their reasons for it!
Physically – While Webby can take down adults, it’s usually out of surprise. She’s still a young child, and a duck at that – in canon, it’s shown that adult ducks are incredibly light and easy to pick up by taller species, as if they weighed little more than a ragdoll. Being a child, Webby’s even lighter, so she can be stopped easily if caught and knocked out.
4. What would make them happiest?
Aside from her wish being granted, she wants to be exactly like her hero, Scrooge McDuck – she wants to become a great explorer and adventurer just like him, discovering ancient cities and uncovering treasure while fighting off evil monsters and saving the world. In that same vein, she wants to be acknowledged by Scrooge as well – not just as an equal when it comes to adventures, but as a family member and someone he can be proud of.
One of her happiest moments was Scrooge telling Webby to call him Uncle, and one of her most devastating moments was when he angrily barked that she wasn’t family.
5. What’s their type for a lover?
Webby is rather oblivious when it comes to romance, even when another person spells it out for them – when Huey tried to explain the concept of a “Meet Cute” as Fenton and Gandra awkwardly flirted, she was just incredibly puzzled. But she also seeks it as another “adventure” to be conquered, and since she enjoys learning new things, is intrigued on how it works as a concept and is happy to learn more.
It’s very possible that Lena is Webby’s ideal for a significant other, but Webby hasn’t realized it yet, despite her giving Lena various pet names, describing her in incredibly poetic terms, and even claims that Lena has stolen her heart. That being the case, then Webby’s “type” are mysterious girls with wild and dangerous streaks to them with a hidden heart of gold.

Character History
Character History: Wiki #1!
Canon Example: Wiki#2 !
Character Motivation:
What drives your character in their canon?
Initially, Webby was driven by a split need to emulate her idol, Scrooge McDuck, and to be a grand explorer in her own right. Once she was allowed to explore the outside world, she felt a desire to experience absolutely everything, be it as exciting as discovering ancient runes or going on a public bus for the first time. She still wants to be just like Scrooge, but she intends to enjoy every day to the fullest , so it's really hard to get her down. She tends to be optimistic about everything, so sometimes it's a matter of what isn't driving her that day. Helping out a friend? Yay! Figuring out ancient riddles? Sweet! Gluing sparkles to her notebooks? Sign her up!
What is their purpose, whether chosen or forced on them?
Webby doesn't really believe she was given a purpose in life, so she chose one herself. As stated before, she really wants to be like Scrooge in so many ways, and as an extension be a part of a big, exciting, loving family. She doesn't mind not being in the spotlight either – she's just as enthusiastic helping Scrooge as is she is finding her own place. Any task he gives her, no matter how small, brings her great joy.
Why do they do (or did) what they do in canon?
A love for family, a love for adventure, a love for almost gosh darn everything. Love and excitement drive almost all of her actions. All it takes is for someone to show her a drop of kindness and attention and Webby would bend over backwards for them. When that isn't the case, she enjoys life-threatening adventure, anything for an adrenaline rush, and to learn all about the world she was denied to access for so long.
Personality:
Webby Vanderquack is a bundle of dynamite, in both positive and negative meanings of the expression. Because of her shut-in life, every experience is a new one and thus she gives 110% to everything she tries. Even the most mundane things like riding a bus for the first time is enough to fill her with happiness and wonder. But because of her severe lack of social skills, this enthusiasm can be dangerous and annoying (ignoring personal space despite obvious signs they want to left alone, and ripping out wires so she can hide in a machine without thinking of what said wires were for). It's not that she's a callous or uncaring person - she genuinely loves her family and friends, and would do anything in her power to help them. It's just that she simply doesn't understand other people's mindsets, and needs to be taught.
One great example of this is the search for Della Duck, the long-lost mother of the triplets. It's the one mystery about Scrooge McDuck she's never been able to solve, and since she's obsessed with her greatest hero, she jumped at any chance to learn more about this hidden chapter. She was more concerned about solving the mystery and making it interesting than how the triplets felt about their mother, and this reached a peak when there was a possibility that Della betrayed Scrooge by stealing something of this. Della was thrilled at this prospect and wanted to explore this avenue, and when Dewey (Della's son) objected out of heartbreak, she genuinely couldn't understand why he was so despondent. When he admitted he didn't want to learn his mother was a bad person, only then did Webby understand how much agony this was causing her friend - and, showing her heart, she was willing to abandon her search to appease him and keep the mystery unsolved.
She has a hard time keeping her beak closed and lying, but spending time with the Duck family has helped strengthen both. It's not perfected, but she is willing to learn, and longs for love and acceptance as much as she wants adventure and excitement. She's shown jealousy over the triplets for their bond, and instantly bonded with the mysterious Lena despite all the warning signs. Her loving heart and eagerness to comply with almost anything manages to endear many to her, especially once she shows her real self. She managed to win over Lena (who initially was only using Webby and instead wound up genuinely enjoying their friendship) and became accepted as Scrooge's family (despite his reluctance to form bonds again after losing his family once before.) She finds it difficult to be angry or resentful over anyone for too long, as she views it as a waste of time. You have to seriously hurt someone she loves in order for her to stay mad. (Looking at you, Magica, you friend-murderer.)
She's an odd one, such as picturing her death ("I can't believe I'm about to die in a pit of spikes... I mean, I always hoped...") and rarely being able to stay still, but she's a good girl at heart who just needs to learn how the world works.
Canon Strength/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
Super strength (able to take on fully-grown men and women and kick their asses), expansive knowledge of several forms of combat, weaponry, and legends/myths. A possible magical affinity, given her connection to Lena. Also a relentless determination.
Weaknesses:
Naivety, too trusting, and while she is very strong attack-wise, defense wise she is still a little girl and thus can be defeated by taking advantage of the height difference.
Apprentice Sorcerer Application
Class: Warrior or Fairy.
Weapon: Grappling Hook Gun!
Magic Style: N/A
Element: Fire, due to her warm heart and fiery personality (and not due to the fact that letting this child have access to fire would be both hilarious and disastrous.)

[No, the girl upside-down is not a result of your mirror on the fritz. She's upside-down herself, hanging from a tree.]
Hi everyone! I was trying to think of what to do on my downtime in-between adventures here! Normally back home when we're on “break”, the boys play video games or watch TV or try to earn a Junior Woodchuck Badge, buuut they're not... here.
[beat.]
NOT THAT I MISS THEM WITH EVERY WAKING MOMENT. No, I'm fine! Everything's fine. I'm just trying to think...
[The nervous grin sells it, right? She clears her throat before trying again.]
So, what do you guys do for fun? Aside from adventuring and exploring, obviously, nothing's more fun than that. I was thinking of maybe doing some training? A little one on one combat? Or we could compare mythologies! Oh, oh, what if we do both? Every round of combat, we exchange the name of a prominent goddess! That would be so -
[Alas, she got so excited that she lost her leg's grip on the tree and falls down with a hard THUD. The mirror bounces in the grass, but does manage to capture her dizzily holding a finger up.]
… Ooor we can review medical practices, and hope I don't have a concussion.
Third Person Sample:
Normally, Webby could be found either on Main Street, trying to be social and friendly, or exploring all over Thunder Mesa, as it reminded her of Scrooge's Klondike days. But today was a little different – Fantasy Faire was her her forte, or to be more specific, one man's home. She had tried her hardest not to annoy the old man with her endless questions (and boy, that had been a struggle!) but these were no longer going to be questions just for the sake of knowing everything. Today was for the sake of a friend.
“So, Merlin,” she practiced her planned dialogue as she walked, hands behind her back, trying to imitate the way Louie would talk and act when he wanted to dig for info. “Let's say a friend had this... other friend. A wonderful, beautiful and mysterious girl who could capture your heart with one flick of her perfectly shaded eyes - ” Focus! Focus!! After a mental head-slap, she tried again “Anyway, long story short, she was blasted away by an evil sorceress, and I was hoping you'd know a way to bring her back?”
Webby stopped in her walk, frowning. Even with her lack of social skills, she could tell a few points were missing. Most people tended to frown on necromancy, after all. But this was different! Lena was different, and she deserved a chance to have a real life! If there was an opportunity for her to have one, Webby would do all in her power to find it. Surely Merlin would understand that, and if he didn't, she'd have to... ask him again. And again. And again.
With her heart pounding so loudly she wouldn't have been surprised if the entire kingdom heard it, she stood in front of the cottage door, ready to face what could be her biggest hope or most depressing failure – no, she wouldn't allow failure. Scrooge McDuck wouldn't let pessimism control him, and neither would Webby Vanderquack!
The image of her hero firmly resonating in her mind – along with a nice daydream of him cheering her on – she straightened her back and announced herself... with way more drama than was necessary. “SIR MERLIN, I NEED TO SPEAK TO YOU RIGHT AWAY! … Please.”

… Please.”

History: Wiki!
Personality:
Energetic : Webby Vanderquack is a bundle of dynamite, in both positive and negative meanings of the expression. Because of her shut-in life, every experience is a new one and thus she gives 110% to everything she tries. Even the most mundane things like riding a bus for the first time is enough to fill her with happiness and wonder. But because of her severe lack of social skills, this enthusiasm can be dangerous and annoying (ignoring personal space despite obvious signs they want to left alone, and ripping out wires so she can hide in a machine without thinking of what said wires were for) It's just that she simply doesn't understand other people's mindsets, and needs to be taught.
Determined : It takes a LOT for Webby to give up on anything, no matter how dangerous the situation. Giving up feels a lot like defeat, and since she's been on plenty of adventures where it seemed like all hope was lost ONLY for someone (her, scrooge, the boys, etc) to save the day, she feels her mindset is reasonable. This can often land her in trouble when she's in over her head and doesn't see the real danger she's in. But on the other hand, it's this ray of hope that has encouraged other characters to keep on fighting. (Such as Lena using her magic to save Webby from a money-shark when Webby wouldn't give up on her. It's a weird show.) But it's not just adventure that gets this attitude - she also applies this to searching information and learning new things, finding new chapters and lost family histories to be equally exciting.
Caring : Despite being raised by a loving grandmother, Webby is starved for affection, and as a result she gives it easily. People she knew mere seconds ago can suddenly be her best friends, and she's willing to hide the "weirder" parts of her personality in order to appease them. (When she thought the triplets didn't like her, she tried to hide the fact she could easily untie them out of the kidnapping situation they were in.) When someone needs a hug or reassurance, she's first in line. (Comforting Dewey after a death trap, doing the same to Storkules as he enters an existential crises.) While she doesn't have much objection to a "violence first" approach, she would prefer a peaceful situation if possible. (Offering to train harpies instead of fighting them constantly. Also, one of her first idea's for things Louie's business could sell - "Free Hugs!") But she isn't naive enough to think it'll always work.
Knowledgeable : When Webby enjoys something or thinks it'll be useful for an upcoming situation, she will dive head-first into it. She loves to read and memorize, building graphs and charts, outlining family trees, so on and so forth. When she relays this knowledge, she doesn't see it as bragging, as she assumes everyone would be interested in the thing she's talking about. When she's confronted with a new fact about what she knows or discovers what she's studying is missing something, she's incredibly excited by this and can't wait to see what comes of it. Warning - if you ask her to explain something, she may never shut up, and ignore/be oblivious about the fact you nodded off about an hour ago.
Always Keep In Mind: Given Webby's chipper personality, almost every line she says should be in a happy tone, unless there's an obvious reason otherwise to not be cheerful. Also, knowledge and application are two different things - just because she's studied extensively on how to do something doesn't mean she'll master it instantly. (Example in the DT17 comic books - she was asked to join her friend's hockey team, and in so studied several hockey games and sports books. Two seconds on the ice and she fell flat on her face.) In other words, she's pretty amazing for a kid, but she's no Mary-Sue.

What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy?
Does "everything" count? I mean, come on, it's MAGIC! Who wouldn't want to know everything about it? Plus, I'm sure it'll really come in handy when I go back home and continue my adventures with Uncle Scrooge and everybody! ... Sure, he's not... the biggest fan of magic, but! He trusts me, so he'll trust what I can do! When can I start learning? Can I start learning now?
If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while?
Well... no offense to the school, but my Granny is probably super worried about me. I'd like to let her know I'm okay. And the boys, and Uncle Scrooge. It is my home, after all. But if I can find a way to go back and forth, I'm totally up for it! We could make it like a student exchange program, except with dragons and wands instead of politics.
If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react?
... I'd break every bone in her body.
... If you see, hear, or smell Magica De Spell here? DO NOT LET HER DO ANYTHING! You gotta stop her right away! She will be up to no good! SHE IS A REALLY BAD PERSON!
When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force?
When they're not giving you a choice. Sometimes people just don't want to listen, and they need some common sense kicked upside the head. Literally.
What should the supreme goal of any wizard be?
Using their magic to help people! What's the point of learning magic otherwise? Magic's a tool, and tools are supposed to make life easier than it was before. Like... a hammer! Sure, you could just bash your head against a nail, but that would take forever, and it'd hurt a lot. Magic is like the hammer getting the nail in faster and safer! ... Wait, can I change my answer to socket wrench?

Nov. 6th, 2018 07:15 pmWebby hesitated in front of the door, ready to knock, then pulling back, ready to knock, pulling back, several times before she finally reached a decision. One, two, three. Anymore than that would be pushing it, and she held her breath, ready to bolt back to her room if her request went unanswered. She almost did anyway when she heard the footsteps, a few grumbles, and the door opened. There now stood Scrooge McDuck, and at first he glowered before his expression quickly softened, recognizing who had just disturbed him from his slumber.
"Webby, it's the middle of the night." Stating the obvious. "What's the matter?"
At first she told him the blunt reason, but then reconsidered. "Do you get nightmares?"
She understood the raised eyebrow and the annoyed face his beak twisted into, as this was hardly the time for her usual invasive questions about everything he did. Her eyes shot to the floor, ready to apologize, ready to take it back, until, much to her relief - "Sometimes."
Her eyes lifted back quickly. "Really?" Truth be told, this was surprising to hear. While the reason for this nightly visit wasn't to pump him for information, it was still interesting to hear. "You do?"
"Aye. Usually after one of you gets in trouble." Webby thought she saw a hint of a smile, but it didn't stay long enough to be sure. Her body began to loosen up, since it was clear he understood what, exactly, was causing her night terror - seeing your best friend murdered right in front of your face - as well as a shadow creature could be murdered - was bound to have a lasting effect. But what truly shocked her was when he offered her hand.
She hadn't been sure what to expect, but in this weird land of Empatheias, he was the only one from her world. He was her only sense of comfort, and at times she hoped she was the same for him. Tentatively, her hand grabbed his, squeezing tightly, being led into the room. "I just... just wish I could have done more. Maybe if I found out sooner, if I paid more attention, I could have done something for her. I could have stopped Magica before she hurt anyone. I was such a bad friend-"
"Webby."
"I had no idea the person I cared for most was in pain-"
"Webby."
"And when she needed me most, I wasn't there for her, I wasn't-"
Apparently Webby's tendency to ramble on even included her most depressive moods. She only shut her beak when Scrooge did it for her, his fingers holding together, albeit gently. She blinked up at him, and he released his hold on her. "You did everything you could." He spoke, sounding like his real age for once, a number Webby still wasn't entirely clear on. "Can you do me a favor?"
Another round of confused blinking. She'd do anything for Uncle Scrooge, rip out her own kidney if need be. "What?"
Scrooge sat on his bed, it creaked, and pat the spot next to him. "Could you tell me about her?"
Webby faltered, but not for long, crawling up onto the bed, still holding onto his hand like the world's most comfortable security blanket. "Okay." A breath. "Okay." Another. "She... we met at this abandoned auditorium. She was all by herself, but she was so cool about it, like she didn't need anyone or anything." For once, her rambling went uninterrupted, as she described the adventures held that night that seemed so long away - though the incident with the Beagles certainly got some perplexed noises out of the old tycoon - and the ones that came after, the violent movie that Lena all but tricked them into seeing, the strange abandoned underground tunnel, the sleepover that led to the second Money Bin, the friendship bracelets, the shared jokes, the meaningless fights, the nicknames, all until she was out of breath. She hadn't realized she was crying, mostly because the experience was so foreign to her, and wouldn't have guessed she was until she felt cold wind on her cheeks, and Scrooge brushing her tears away.
She didn't feel entirely better. But she didn't feel worse. "I think I'll be able to sleep now."
"That's a good girl." But Scrooge made no motion to let her go. She tilted her head at him, and now there was a genuine smile this time, with a hint of shyness. He was still learning how to be a family man again, she guessed, which was fair - there was plenty she needed to learn too. "But, if you want... you could still stay here tonight."
Her eyes widened. "Really? Really really?" Despite the sadness lingering in her heart, there was no denying she had always dreamed of an experience like this - nestled comfortably in the arms of the man she saw as her personal hero. It'd be one thing to kick off the bucket list. "I promise, I don't snore, or drool, or talk in my sleep!" There was a time she somehow karate chopped a teddy bear off her bed while she was tossing and turning, but that was months ago, he didn't need to know all the details.
"Let's get some sleep, Webby." He ruffled her hair affectionately, and for half a second, Webby thought she might die happy. She flopped backwards, wondering how she would ever sleep, now that she was so excited.
"Wow, an actual sleepover with Scrooge McDuck! This is so cool!"
"Goodnight, Webby."
"Have you ever had a sleepover with anyone, Uncle Scrooge? Or sleep with teddy bears? Or believe in the Tooth Fairy?"
"... Goodnight, Webby."
"Wait, wait, one more thing - is it true you actually fought the Sandman bare-handed and won?"
Scrooge sighed, and Webby missed the regret inside of it.

Character: Webbigail Vanderquack
Age: N/A, stated to be at least a preteeen.
Canon: Ducktales (2017)
Canon Point: Post Season One Finale.
Background: Wiki!
Abilities: Webby has been trained her entire life to protect herself, from learning martial arts all over the world, to firing weapons, espionage, camping, translating dead languages, so and and so forth.
She's also shown to have a slight hint of supernatural ability in regards to friendship magic, which allows her to defeat magical creatures - but it requires a conduit, such as Lena, to work alongside her. She herself doesn't know the limits of this power, as Lena dismissed it immediately, but the power is dormant and laying within her.
Alignment: Daimonia.
Webby tends to be joyful about every little thing - even her standard introduction, "Hi I'm Webby!" tends to be shouted instead of spoken normally since she's so excited. She dives head-first into all new encounters, eager to learn everything and anything. She finds it hard to stay mad at people, especially those she loves, and would rather get over anger quickly so she can be happy again. She can find happiness in the smallest, most dull things, especially if it's related to Scrooge, adventures, or someone she knows.
Other: She'll be coming with the clothes on her back, and if allowed, grappling hook.
Remember that we ask for samples that show 1) core character portrayal and 2) some use of emotions, such as environmental effect. You can also use the same sample source for both, just make sure to directly link or quote the emotion portion. We highly encourage using the Test Drive, and you can use prompts from the Test Drives, Intro Logs, and the Task board if you need them. Refer to the main application page for links and more suggestions.

[When the broadcast is made over the amulet, the enthusiasm is obvious, apparent, and almost blinding.]
HI I'M WEBBY!
[But before she can go further, there's the sound of someone clearing their throat, no doubt "her" Scrooge.]
Oh, right. Sorry.
[After a nervous chuckle, she rights herself, smoothing down her clothes before trying again.]
Hi, I'm Webby!
[A brief pause, glancing behind her to make sure she got thumbs of approval. She giddily clicks her heels before resuming.]
So it's come to my attention that Scrooge McDuck - the first one that arrived here and dresses in blue - has been here for several years, and that means he must have had sooo many adventures and experiences here. Of course I can hear them first-hand from the man himself, but the best way to really memorize and understand a story is to hear all the angles! For the sake of proper research, I need to do real investigating! I want to speak to everyone here who's ever talked to, worked with, or helped one Scrooge McDuck!
Interviews start tomorrow at noon sharp! I'll even bring cookies and nutmeg tea. Isn't it cool that BOTH Scrooges love nutmeg tea?
[The heel clicking gets more insistent, as if she's discovered a long-lost treasure or made the greatest discovery in history and EXPECTS YOU TO BE JUST AS EXCITED.]
Comparing the two of them has been one of the best times in my whole life! They've gone on similar but not-exactly-the-same adventures, know similar but not-exactly-the-same people, and even fought similar but not-exactly-the-same enemies! And think about how OLD they are, they're ancient!
[Scrooge is trying to clear his throat and stop her but she's not having any of it, speaking so rapidly that she forgets she's alone. After all, who wouldn't find this fascinating? It's twice the Scrooge, twice the fun! Anyone who isn't interested in Scrooge McDuck must be nuts! OR SHE CAN CONVERT THEM.]
Think about all the piles of decades between them, the circumstances that extended their life-span, and it's really likely they'll die around the same time as well! Like maybe the Scrooge I know is trapped in a coal mine and slowly suffocates to death due to lack of oxygen but the other Scrooge gets trapped in a diamond mine and suffers an infection after cutting himself on a rusty piece of equipment!
[At this point Scrooge has given up and is trying to drag her away by the shoulder. She still rambles on, oblivious that anything's wrong or that some people in the 'network' have long since stopped listening. All she can really hear right now is the sound of her own voice.]
Oh, oh, maybe they both caught the same venereal diseases as children!
Emotion Sample:
This had been Lena's idea, although to be fair, she had been joking. But one thing led to another, as these things happen, and now Webby was tying the last knot to the banister. It was all methodical and planned down to the last second, which was why Webby didn't have a safety net underneath the tightrope. You only needed those things if you didn't have good balance, and Webby had perfect balance. She could imagine her grandmother loudly objecting to this idea in her head - but grandma wasn't here, so what was the harm?
Boy, doing this for the first time was going to be so much fun! The flames of nearby candles began to burn up hotter and higher as they felt her excitement, and the temperature in the room jumped up. Time for a practice run. Webby picked up her thick scrapbook and placed it on her head before taking one, slow, steady step on the rope. She kept her arms outstretched, her tongue sticking out in concentration as she took step by step. With each successful step, her joy grew stronger, and the candles burned hotter. She was almost at the halfway-mark, and couldn't stop grinning.
But the grin began to fade as she smelt something suspicious. She dared to glance over - and to her surprise, saw that the candles flames were now so high that they were burning the ends of the rope! "Uh-oh." Did she move forward? Backward? Panic began to build up, and with it, the air around her began to grow cold. "Um... this might not have been the best idea..." She said to no one, trying to think quickly. Without a safety net, she was seriously going to hurt herself. Maybe she could use her emotions to her advantage? What had Uncle Scrooge said about what does what? Being upset could bring ice or rain, neither of which would make for a comfy landing -
SNAP -
"Eek!"
THUMP.
Speak of the devil, there stood Scrooge, who now held a small trapeze artist in his arms. She smiled sheepishly at him, the candles snuffed out as she internally panicked about his reaction. She winced... and then... felt his hand affectionately stroking her hair, the warmth of his relief flooding through his touch.
